Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses
Museum of Pop Culture
Exhibit Graphics / Interactive Design
AGENCY: BELLE & WISSELL, CO.
MoPOP commissioned Belle & Wissell to design the exhibition graphics and a series of interactives for their exhibition titled “Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses”—which paid homage to both the band and the music scene that they were born from.
Senior Curator Jacob McMurray asked Belle & Wissell to come up with an unconventional approach to allow the curatorial team to construct “story threads” linking large sets of digital assets (photographs and video/oral histories).
MoPOP entered and edited content into a custom-built content management system that allowed them to have precise control to cut video content with stills into stories for a unique touch table station in each section of the exhibit.
The interface was designed with an experimental content navigation approach, so Belle & Wissell utilized a “ghost in the machine” technique to demonstrate functionality.
